Arrange clips, trim timing, split takes, use snapping, and keep linked media synchronized.
Timeline Lanes
Studio uses five timeline lanes:

| V1 | Video clips and still images. |
| A1 | Primary audio: dialogue, voiceover, music, or effects. |
| A2 | Secondary audio that plays alongside A1. |
| C1 | Captions for spoken words. |
| T1 | Visual overlays such as titles, labels, logo bugs, and watermarks. |
The white vertical line is the playhead. Timeline commands use the playhead as the edit position.
Select Clips
Click a clip to select it. Command-click or Control-click to add or remove clips from the current selection.
Use Edit > Select All to select every timeline clip. Drag one selected clip to move the group while preserving relative timing.
Trim Clips
Use the Timeline menu:
- Trim Start to Playhead removes the part before the playhead.
- Trim End to Playhead removes the part after the playhead.
Trimming a generated video clip also trims its linked companion audio when Studio can identify the pair.
Split Clips
Choose Timeline > Split Clip at Playhead to cut the selected clip into two clips.
Generated video and companion audio split together when Studio can identify the link. This keeps dialogue, sound effects, or native generated audio aligned with the picture.
Move Clips
Drag clips left or right to change timing. Drag between compatible lanes to move media to another lane.
When generated video and companion audio are linked, supported move and trim operations preserve the relationship between the paired clips. If you manually select only one clip and move it independently, review the related lane before export.
Use Snapping
Magnetic snapping helps align clip edges. The timeline can show feedback such as Clip End, +2f gap, or marker labels so you know whether a move will connect, leave a small gap, or align with another point.
Use the magnet control to turn snapping on or off. Hold Option while dragging to bypass snapping for one move.
Zoom and Nudge
Use the timeline zoom controls to zoom out, adjust timeline zoom, or zoom in when a clip is hard to select.
Arrow keys nudge selected clips by small increments. Modifier keys can make the nudge finer or larger.
Duplicate and Delete
Use the Timeline menu:
- Duplicate Clip copies the selected clip or selected group.
- Delete Clip removes selected timeline clips.
- Ripple Delete removes selected material and closes the resulting gap where supported.
Deleting a clip from the timeline does not delete the asset from the shelf.
Undo and Redo
Use Edit > Undo and Edit > Redo for timeline changes. The menu label names the action, such as Undo Split Clip or Undo Trim End.
Watch Out For
- Same-lane overlaps stop export. Reposition or trim overlapping clips before rendering.
- Linked audio/video edits are strongest when Studio can identify the generated pair. After manual moves, check both lanes.
- Very short clips can be hard to click until you zoom in.
