Text and Captions

Use T1 Overlay for designed screen text and C1 Captions for spoken-word captions.

Two Different Text Systems

Studio separates text that is part of the visual design from text that represents speech:

  • T1 Overlay holds titles, lower thirds, labels, logo bugs, watermarks, and image overlays.
  • C1 Captions holds timed caption cues for spoken words.

Keeping them separate makes editing and export easier.

Add Designed Text

Open Effects > Text & Captions to create visual text overlays.

Common overlay types include:

  • Basic titles.
  • Title cards.
  • Lower thirds.
  • Labels and callouts.

Set the overlay text, timing, placement, typography, appearance, and animation. Saved overlays appear on the T1 lane.

Typography and Motion

Studio includes bundled font choices for common title and label styles, plus system fonts. Motion presets control how text appears and disappears without needing manual keyframes.

Choose simpler motion for captions and informational labels. Use larger motion only when the text is part of the creative design.

Add Image Overlays

Use Effects > Image Overlays for visual layers such as:

  • Logo bugs.
  • Watermarks.
  • Product cutouts.
  • Frame graphics.
  • Callouts.

Image overlays are timeline screen layers. Visual Assets in Elements are planning records and generation context. Some image-backed Visual Assets can be handed off into Image Overlays when the project has an active timeline and the source file is an image.

Create Captions from Audio

To create captions from a clip:

  1. Select a video or audio clip with speech.
  2. Open Effects > Text & Captions.
  3. Use the transcription controls to extract audio.
  4. Review the staged caption results.
  5. Append the new cues or replace existing cues in the affected range.

Selected-clip transcription uses the transcription provider configured for the project. If the transcription controls are unavailable, check your provider key and Provider Profile settings.

Export Captions

When the timeline has C1 caption cues, Studio offers caption export choices:

  • Burn-in Only renders captions into the video picture.
  • Burn-in + SRT + WebVTT renders captions into the video and writes sidecar files beside the MP4.
  • No Captions exports a clean video without caption text.

Use Burn-in + SRT + WebVTT when you want the most flexible output.

Tips

  • Use T1 for designed text and C1 for speech captions.
  • Review generated captions before export.
  • Keep lower thirds short enough to read at normal playback speed.
  • Use image overlays for graphics that should visibly sit on top of the video.
